Combine Language Studies and Music

Do you dream of developing your musical skills while learning a new language? At Lärkkulla Combined, you can combine Finnish or Swedish language studies with focused music education in a creative and international learning environment.

This programme is designed for anyone who wants to grow both linguistically and musically—whether you are aiming for further music studies, developing your artistic expression, or simply giving music a bigger role in your life.

Study Language and Music Side by Side

As a Combined student, you will follow one of Lärkkulla's language programmes while also taking music courses through the Pop&rock programme. You will improve your language skills in everyday life while developing your musical abilities through individual lessons and ensemble performance.

You can choose between:

  • Finnish + Music

  • Swedish + Music

The language studies strengthen your communication skills for studies, work, and everyday life in Finland, while the music studies provide opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.

Music Studies Included

As a Combined student, you will take part in a varied music programme that combines individual tuition with group performance.

Major Subject / Individual Lessons

You choose a principal instrument or area of focus and receive one individual lesson each week. Available subjects include:

  • Voice

  • Piano (classical or contemporary)

  • Guitar (classical or electric)

  • Electric bass

  • Drums

  • Violin

  • Church organ

  • Music production

Additional private lessons can be booked for an extra fee (€30 per 30-minute lesson).

Group Music Studies

In addition to your individual lessons, you can participate in:

  • Music Theory (90 minutes/week)
    Classes are offered at different levels depending on your previous experience.

  • Ensemble / Band (90 minutes/week)
    Play together with other musicians while developing ensemble skills, expanding your repertoire, and gaining stage experience.

  • Choir (60 minutes/week)

  • Singing Workshop (60 minutes/week)
    For students who wish to further develop vocal technique, expression, and interpretation.

Performance Opportunities

At Lärkkulla, music is something we create together. Throughout the academic year, regular concerts are organised—approximately once a month—giving you the opportunity to perform and grow as a musician in front of an audience.

These performances provide valuable stage experience and make your studies both inspiring and rewarding.

Who Is Lärkkulla Combined For?

You do not need to be aiming for a professional music career to apply—motivated hobby musicians as well as future music students are warmly welcome.

A Foundation for Further Studies

Combined provides an excellent foundation for further studies in music, for example at music academies, universities, or other educational institutions in Finland and abroad.

During the programme, you will develop:

  • musical skills

  • ensemble performance and stage experience

  • theoretical knowledge

  • language proficiency in Finnish or Swedish
